Fine Gael back on top as latest opinion poll shows seven point surge

Enda Kenny’s party are one point ahead of Fianna Fáil.

A NEW OPINION poll has seen Fine Gael reclaim their spot as the most popular party in the country as Sinn Féin suffers a severe dip in support.

The poll, which features in today’s Sunday Times, shows Enda Kenny’s party up 7% to 29%. Fianna Fáil registered no change, standing at 28%, while Sinn Féin fell five points to 18%.

Labour and the Independent Alliance both dropped slightly, now both with 5% support.

The Sunday Times said there is a margin of error of 3% in these polls. The respondents were asked their political preferences between a 12-day period between 30 March and 11 April.

A full breakdown of the parties is below:

  • Fine Gael 29%
  • Fianna Fáil 28%
  • Sinn Féin 18%
  • Independents and others 10%
  • Independent Alliance 5%
  • Labour 5%
  • Solidarity/PBP 2%
  • Green Party 2%
  • Social Democrats 2%
  • Workers Party 1%

The latest figures are in stark contrast to a poll conducted at the start of March, which showed Gerry Adams’ party control more support than Fine Gael.
